Looking for audio or e-books to borrow? Below are some of the many FREE sources to borrow audio books for your computer, mp3 player, or smartphone and e-books for your e-reader, tablet, or smartphone. 

Get a C/W MARS card from the Beaman Memorial LibraryUse your C/W MARS card to borrow audio and e-books from the digital catalog.

Get a BPL eCardMassachusetts state residents are eligible to sign up for a Boston Public Library eCard via the web! BPL eCards are virtual library cards that allow users immediate access to all of Boston Public Library’s remotely-accessible electronic resources, including databases, downloadable audio, video, eBooks, and music. Free downloadable audio books- the audio book sources listed below offer free access to public domain titles (titles for which the copyright expired or has been forfeited):
  • LibriVox - Public domain books, poetry, and dramatic works read by volunteers.
  • FSI Language Courses- Collection of free, high-quality language learning materials developed by the United States Government under the auspices of the Foreign Service Institute. 
Free e-books- the e-book sources listed below offer free access to public domain titles (titles for which the copyright expired or has been forfeited):
  • Project Gutenberg - Over 36,000 free public domain ebooks available to download to PC, Kindle, iPad, iPhone, Android, or other portable device.  
  • ManyBooks - Over 29,000 free public domain titles; 35 languages represented.
  • Open Library - A project of the non-profit Internet Archive. Over 1 million titles.
